How to Stop Your Cat from Peeing Along the Edge of the Litter Box: The Design Thinking Behind CATLINK

How to Stop Your Cat from Peeing Along the Edge of the Litter Box: The Design Thinking Behind CATLINK

Have you ever noticed how your cat goes about doing their business?

Most cats tend to pee and poop during the same bathroom trip, but they usually don't do both in exactly the same spot. Instead, the two types of waste end up in different areas of the litter box.

Some cats also like to brace themselves against the side of the litter box when they poop, putting their whole body into it. And then there are the edge pee-ers: cats who prefer to urinate right along the edge of the litter box. It's a question we hear from cat parents all the time, especially those using automatic self-cleaning litter boxes.

So today, we're taking a closer look at how CATLINK litter box edge design helps solve this everyday problem.

CATLINK Scooper Open-X: Designed to Keep Edge Pee Under Control

One of the biggest challenges with edge peeing is what happens when the litter box starts to rotate. Urine can run along the walls of the rotating globe, spreading into places it shouldn't.

The whole point of buying an automatic litter box is to make life easier. But when urine leaks into the gaps or collects around the base, cleaning can quickly become more of a chore than expected.

To help prevent this, we designed a funnel-shaped urine guidance system. When your cat uses the CATLINK Scooper Open-X, both urine and solid waste are guided into the litter mat, whether your cat pees or poops near the edge. The space between the globe and the base stays clean, so you can spend less time dealing with leaks and more time enjoying your cat.

Soft Waste Burial & Continuous Cleaning

Experienced cat parents know that the key to effective scooping is giving clumps enough time to form before removing them. We took that same principle and built it into the CATLINK app with two cleaning modes: Soft Waste Burial and Continuous Cleaning.

You can easily turn on either feature in your device's cleaning settings. Both modes follow a similar approach: once the system detects that your cat has left, the litter box gently rotates, allowing fresh litter to cover the waste and help contain odors. After the waste has fully clumped, the globe rotates to the dumping position.

It's a simple idea, inspired by the way experienced cat parents already handle litter box cleaning, and designed to make the process more convenient.

CATLINK Scoop Robot Pro Posture Correction Board

CATLINK Scoop Robot Posture Correction Board Installation

Sometimes, the problem isn't where your cat pees, but where they choose to stand.

Some cats don't fully enter the globe when using the litter box. Instead, they stay near the edge, which can lead to urine leakage.

Thanks to the spacious interior of the CATLINK Scoop Robot Pro, we designed a Posture Correction Board for the inside of the globe. This practical optional accessory is included with the main device, so cat parents can use it when needed.

If your cat likes to stand on the edge of the globe rather than stepping fully inside, you may want to consider installing the Posture Correction Board in your CATLINK Scoop Robot Pro.

Once installed, the board creates a gentle slope that makes the cat feel as though they're standing on a downhill surface. Their natural body weight and momentum encourage them to move further into the globe, helping reduce the chance of edge peeing.

Sometimes, solving a frustrating everyday problem doesn't require changing your cat's habits. It just takes a little thoughtful design.
