Why Is Poop Sticking to the Litter Box? We’ve Got Answers.
What our Facebook community is talking about
Even though your automatic litter box does most of the dirty work, sometimes things can still get messy. One of the most frustrating issues? Poop is sticking to the inside of the litter box.
So we teamed up with our product development and customer service teams to create this sticky situation survival guide. Let’s help you get a cleaner, smoother experience with your CATLINK litter box.
Are You Adding Enough Litter?
One common reason for sticky poop is not using enough litter. We recommend always filling litter up to the “MAX” line. While most cat litter only needs to be replaced every two weeks, it does get used up little by little as clumps are removed. When the litter level gets too low, waste might stick to the bottom.
The soft, thick litter feels just right for the cat, and they love it!
This is especially important for users of the Pro Series with silicone liners. If the litter layer is too thin, your cat might dig through it and scratch the liner with their claws. And some cats just love digging deep before they do their business. In those cases, keeping enough litter in the box really helps avoid sticky problems.
Time to Rethink Your Litter?
Litter with strong clumping power can make a big difference. It helps fully wrap around waste and holds together during the cleaning cycle, instead of breaking apart like a dry cookie.
You can use any type of clumping litter with CATLINK, but if you’re dealing with sticky messes, we suggest trying CATLINK’s litter or another high-performance formula. You might also mix in some baking soda granules. They help absorb moisture and keep the litter dry and less likely to stick. Plus, they reduce odors naturally.
Try the Soft Stool Mode
Did you know? Some CATLINK models like the Scooper Pro Ultra and the SE Series come with a Soft Stool Mode, perfect for runny or sticky waste.
When activated, the litter box rotates slightly after your cat finishes, gently covering the waste to trap odors. Then, after a short delay (which you can customize, like 10 minutes), it performs a full cleaning cycle. This gives the litter time to firm up, so the clump drops smoothly into the waste bin instead of sticking to the surface.

If you're using an SE Series litter box, the litter mat is designed to be removable and easy to clean. To keep it in good shape, we suggest using a soft brush and a pet-safe cleaner. If it doesn’t smell, plain water will do just fine.
After cleaning, dry the mat in a cool, shaded place. Avoid direct sunlight, which can cause wear and tear over time. With regular care, your mat will stay in great shape and resist sticky buildup.
What Not to Do
Using adhesive removers or other harsh cleaners might seem like a good idea, but we strongly recommend against it.
Here’s why: many of these products aren’t designed with cats in mind. While they might be harmless to people, curious cats might sniff, lick, or even taste the litter, especially if you're using plant-based litter that smells natural. If they ingest or inhale any chemical residue, it could pose a health risk.
When in doubt, stick to gentle, cat-safe cleaning options.
In Summary
Sticky poop might be annoying, but it’s definitely solvable. A few small changes like topping up the litter, switching your litter type, or adjusting your settings, can make a big difference.
With the right setup, your CATLINK litter box will keep things clean, fresh, and hassle-free. Let CATLINK be the cleanup partner you and your cat can count on.
