What does it mean to split WiFi into 2.4GHz and 5GHz?

Most home routers actually have two “channels”, one is called 2.4GHz and the other is 5GHz.

Think of them like two lanes on a road:2.4GHz has a longer range and can pass through walls better, but it's a bit slower.5GHz is faster, but it doesn’t reach as far and doesn’t go through walls as well.

“Splitting” the WiFi just means showing these two options separately, so you can pick the one that works best for your device. It makes your connection more stable and reliable.
Why do we need your help?

Most CATLINK devices, except for the Ultra model, need to connect to a 2.4GHz WiFi network.

But here’s the problem: many users aren’t familiar with how to split their WiFi into 2.4GHz and 5GHz, so they get stuck during setup. That means they can’t use their CATLINK devices properly, and it becomes hard for them to check their cat’s health data.

Who can join this event?

We’d love to have you if you meet the following criteria:

  1. You’re based in the U.S. and currently using a CATLINK smart litter box that’s connected to Wi-Fi.
  2. You have access to a private and testable Wi-Fi network.

Unfortunately, public or shared networks—like those in airports, hotels, or apartment complexes—often don’t support CATLINK devices properly. If that’s your current setup, we’re really sorry, but this event may not be the right fit for now.
What does a “WiFi Splitting Tester” need to do?

We’ll ask you to follow a step-by-step guide based on your router brand to try splitting your home WiFi into two separate networks: 2.4GHz and 5GHz by using a computer.During the process, we’d love for you to:

  1. Record a video on your phone while you go through the steps
  2. Give a simple voice explanation as you do it
  3. Take clear screenshots of each step

Our CATLINK Customer Service Team will use your video and screenshots to create easy-to-follow WiFi setup guides for users around the world.
